The Michael Elliott Award for Excellence in African Storytelling is now open for entries, and the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), the ONE Campaign, and the Elliott family are pleased to make this announcement.
The award recognizes up-and-coming African journalists who work to raise people’s voices and shed light on the continent’s transformative change. The work submitted for the award must be cutting-edge journalism that was published between December 1, 2021, and December 1, 2022.

English-speaking journalists working in print, broadcast, or online news media in Africa are eligible to apply for the ICFJ/ONE/Michael Elliott Award for Excellence in African Storytelling. No more than ten years of journalism experience is required of applicants.
One published piece that exemplifies Africa through thoughtful reporting and compelling storytelling must be submitted by applicants. We are looking for compelling investigative or explanation articles, particularly those that shed light on Africa’s transformational change.
English-language copies of the broadcast clip or published story must be submitted. English translations must be included in works in other languages. We invite entries from print, broadcast or computerized writers. Web, audio, video, visual, or mixed media submissions are all acceptable types of multimedia.
