Full-Fee Scholarships 2023 at Ghent University - Belgium

 Ghent University offers scholarships to deserving students from developing nations who want to do half of their research at Ghent University and half at a university in a developing nation with funding from its "Special Research Fund" (BOF).

These awards take the form of a "sandwich" fellowship, in which the recipient receives funding for a maximum of 24 months to work alternately on a PhD at Ghent University (the "North") and at a university or research facility in a developing nation (the "South") over the course of 48 months.

Value Of Scholarship:

The value of the scholarship at Ghent University depends on, a.o., the researcher’s family situation.

The Ghent University promoter also receives a bench fee to cover (part of) the operational costs, as well as the travelling costs of the student and both the Ghent University and the local promoter.


  • Applicants need to come from – and have the nationality of – a developing country (see country list);
  • Applicants will be able to work fulltime on the PhD project for a period of 24 months at the partner university in a selected developing country (South). 
  • Applicants must have completed their Bachelors and Masters degree program
  • Applicants must be fluent in English Language
